Mozambique suffers an average of 1.17 major disasters per year and is seen as one of the three regions most exposed to natural disasters in Africa.

As part of the response to cyclones Idai and Kenneth a manual, titled "Manual de Apoio Psicossocial para Gestores Escolares e Professores", was developed to help guide teachers to create safe and stimulating educational environments, particularly in the area of psychosocial support, and to ensure that children in disaster-affected provinces have access to treatment, recovery and learning opportunities.

This 196 page manual was commissioned by UNICEF Mozambique and the Republic of Mozambique's Ministry of Education and Human Development.
